The after-school jumprope club at Litwin School was started in 1996 by a group of teachers who wanted to promote healthy lifestyle activities for children. Boys and girls in grades 3, 4 and 5 enjoy learning both simple and complicated skills.
 
 
How many kids can jump in a rope at the same time? How many kids can run through the rope without skipping a beat?
     
         Another way to have fun jumproping is to add rhymes to the jumprope routines.
         Here are some jumprope rhymes for you to try:

Blondie and Dagwood went to town.                     I love coffee.
Blondie bought an evening gown.                          I love tea.
Dagwood bought a pair of shoes.                           I'd love (name)
Cookie stayed home to watch the news.               To jump in with me.
And this is what it said:
Close your eyes and count to ten.                            Little George Washington
(Jumper closes eyes).                                                Never told a lie.
One, two, three,...(continue counting to 10).            So he ran around the corner
                                                                                    (jumper exits and runs around
Banana, banana, banana split.                                  bystander)
What did you get in arithmetic?                                And stole a cherry pie.
10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100.                      (jumper re-enters)
                                                                                  How many cherries did he get?
Butterfly, butterfly, turn around.                             Hot peppers! (Calls fast turning)
Butterfly, butterfly, touch the ground.                    10, 20, 30, ...(continue counting)
Butterfly, butterfly, show your shoe.
Butterfly, butterfly, 23 to do
One, two, three, ...(continue count to 23).

Standing on the corner,
Chewing a piece of gum.
Along came (name a new jumper)
And asked for some.
(Jumper 2 jumps in, yells "Give me
some".  Jumper 1 exits, runs around
one turner. Jumper 2 exits runs around
other turner.  If jumper 2 tags jumper 1
outside the rope, or jumper 1 misses on
reentry, jumper 2 takes over,
otherwise, jumper 1 continues.

 

Litwin School's Jumprope Team
 
Litwin School is proud to announce the formation of a "Jumprope For Heart" team!  Under the direction of physical education teacher Jean LaDuke, and with the assistance of Science teacher Lorrie Willette, the "talented ten" students have traveled to area schools, demonstrating their jump rope skills.  Their aim is to show how much fun jumping can be for both boys and girls, and what great exercise it can be for your heart.  They are sponsored by the American Heart Association, and help to promote its "Jumprope For Heart" programs in the schools.  Team transportation to area schools is provided courtesy of Laidlaw Bus Co.
